This Is The One Exercise You Need If You Want To Blitz Stubborn Belly Fat

So says science.

You’ve been hitting the gym hard, following a super clean diet and drinking lemon water like it’s going out of fashion, but still that little pouch of tummy fat remains.

It’s one of the hardest parts of the body to lose weight, but thankfully science has found the most effective way of shifting that stubborn belly bloat.

In a study published in the Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness, participants were asked to do four workouts a week. The first group did four steady-state cardio and strength workouts, while the second group did two steady-state workouts and two high-intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions – and the results speak for themselves.

Not only did the second group lose more weight overall they also lost more inches in their waist and saw a reduction in visceral fat – that’s fat around your organs, predominately found your abdominal area, FYI.

The science bit? HIIT is said to be super effective because of its effect on your metabolism. Focusing on short, intense bursts of exercise, it can boost your body’s fat-burning capabilities for up to 48 hours afterwards.

So how do you do HIIT? We looked to our favourite ridey fitness guru and total HIIT convert Joe Wicks to find out how it’s done.
