Here’s How To Make Your Legs Look Less Crusty For Summer

Look, it's been a long winter. We know what it's like down there.

Although the weather may make it hard to believe, we are well into spring – and with our legs being in hibernation throughout the cold spell, it’s time to start prepping our pins for the summer. These tips have you beach ready in no time.

Exfoliation

The key to smooth, glowing skin is always exfoliation. Have you ever tried applying your false tan over crusty, dry legs? It’s not a good look. Exfoliation is also the key to getting rid of those pesky ingrown hairs. A fab exfoliator we recommend is the Ripe Coffee & Sugar Scrub by Roz Purcell. In the shower, mix a handful of the sugar scrub with your finger to evenly distribute the oils and then apply to wet skin. The will help rub away all your dead skin, creating a perfect base for your tan.

Hydration

Hydration is essential for healthy skin, especially if you’re guilty of shaving your legs a little too often. STELLAR Web Editor Valerie recommends the AMELIORATE Transforming Body Lotion that you can pick up from Boots for €28.99. This lotion works as a moisturiser and exfoliator all in one, and has been proven to help people with Keratosis Pilaris, dry and rough skin and ingrown hairs. STELLAR Social Media Manager Jen swears by SOL DE JANEIRO Brazilian Bum Bum Cream for dryness on her legs and uses it to prep her skin before a false-tanning session. You can pick it up for roughly €21 from Cult Beauty.

Tanning

What better way to get that summer glow than with a bit of false tan? My personal favourite is the Bellamianta Rapid Tanning Mousse in Dark. This gives you a fab glow that’ll last for days, and it wears off really naturally, so no more patchy armpits – hurrah! It can also be built up, meaning you can go as dark as your heart desires. You can pick this up in McCabes pharmacy for €25. If you’re looking for an instant tanning option, lovely lady Roz Purcell loves to give her legs a nourishing glow with SunShimmer Self-Tan Lotion with Chia Oil. It’s an instant tan with extra hydrating properties to make skin gleam, but also develops over time. Get it in Penneys for just €10.99.

Shimmer

If you’re looking to make your legs extra glam, adding a shimmering product is a must. There are plenty of products out there made specifically for your legs, but our Social Media Manager Jen says that her favourite product to apply to her calves is the Sheer Glo liquid highlighter by Buff Makeup in Movie Star. It’s designed to be used on your face, but Jen thinks it looks amazing over tanned legs – and it’s an Irish brand. This will set you back €22 on the Buff Makeup website.

With all of these tips in your arsenal (and maybe a hedge strimmer for your ‘winter coat’), your legs will look less zombie-like in no time.
