How To Deal With Acne On Your Boobs, Bum & Other Weird Places

As if nasty pimples popping up on your face wasn't enough, know they've started appearing on your body too. Here's how to deal...

Chest Acne

You’ve (almost) come to terms with the cluster of pimples that appear along your jaw, the spattering of spots that often flare up on your cheeks and that one big zit that pops up at the side of your nose, but what you really can’t abide is having pimples appear in other areas, like your boobs, bum, arms, back and thighs.

What’s the deal?

“More and more women are suffering with acne on their bums and chest areas,” explains skin specialist Bernie Fahy. “The reason behind it is that we tend to sweat more in these areas and the sebaceous glands become blocked, building up sebum and bacteria.” In turn that leads to clogged pores and nasty breakouts. Stress can also be a major factor too as it “triggers your body to produce cortisol, which then stimulates your oil glands to create acne-causing testosterone.”

How To Treat It

First up, Bernie warns that you could be scrubbing your skin too hard. “This causes your skin to produce more oil to protect it’s barrier,” she explains. Stick with a softer pressure and keep in-shower scrubbing sessions to a twice-week maximum. “Use an antibacterial body wash with tea tree extracts too,” suggests Bernie. It will kill off bacteria, while also balancing sebum production.

Once you’re out of the shower, Bernie recommends covering the affected areas in talcum powder. This will help absorb excess oils throughout the day and prevent them from clogging up your pores.

The last step will both help to heal up existing breakouts and prevent new ones from appearing. “To clear it up, use a gel called Acnecide, available from your local pharmacy,” instructs Bernie. It contains Benzoyl peroxide, an antibacterial agent, which has been show to both reduce acne bacteria and inhibit extra oil production in the sebaceous glands. If applied twice daily, Bernie says you should see results within a few days.
