Irish Models Roz Purcell And Vivienne Connolly Go Make-up Free For #LoveIrishSkin

Roz and Vivienne have gone sans make-up in this latest campaign, and they've chatted to us about embracing pale skin and going fresh-faced in front of your boyfriend.

Do you love your Irish skin, heart your Casper complexion and embrace your freckles? Between the #NoMakeupSelfie and #NoMakeupMonday, we’re making strides, aren’t we? But not as fast as we think, according to new research by Therapie Clinic who found that 61% of Irish people feel less attractive than people from other countries.

Why? Cos we believe we can’t compete with those with a tan. #sadsies. Before you lash on the Sally Hansen though, here’s what Irish models Roz Purcell and Vivienne Connolly are saying about Therapie’s new campaign that wants you to #LoveIrishSkin.

We need to embrace our skin, rather than cover it up.

“It’s like a nationwide confidence boost for Irish people and their skin,” says Vivienne. “We need to embrace our skin, rather than cover it up.” What does she think about the fact that 52% of Irish women wait two weeks before letting a new partner see them make-up free, while 24% admit that they would never be without make-up around their boyf?

“That was the most shocking stat for me. I literally haven’t got the time to be getting out of bed half an hour earlier and stressing over what my boyfriend thinks about how I look in the morning. I couldn’t be bothered”, she answers, adding, “One of the last people I went out with, we met on a date, so of course I was dolled up. But I just said it straight out, I was like, ‘Listen, I don’t look like this all the time you know!’

Viv and I are quite lucky because with our jobs you become comfortable in your own skin quite quickly.

Roz had a different experience with her boyfriend though. She explains, “I kind of rocked up one day with no make-up on and was like, ‘Well this is me’. I suppose I do a lot of sports and I’m always around members of the opposite sex with no make-up on so it wasn’t really a big deal for me. I suppose I can see why it would be for a lot of girls however. I guess Viv and I are quite lucky because with our jobs you do become quite comfortable in your own skin quite quickly.”

Sometimes I do a juice detox and you can really see the benefits of that in your eyes and skin.

When have the girls felt their skin was at its best? “Obviously when I was younger!” laughs Vivienne, “But then I was also a smoker so when I gave up the cigarettes I noticed a big difference in my skin. Plus exercise makes it look good too. Sometimes I do a juice detox and you can really see the benefits of that in your eyes and in your skin, even if you have just one a day, like a beetroot, cucumber, celery and kale shot.”

I was completely tangoed during the Miss Ireland heats!

Roz says, “My best time was before Miss Universe. I was being very clean with my diet, and drinking lots and lots of water.” But there was a mistake in the lead up to the event she reveals! “I was completely tangoed during the Miss Ireland heats! Looking back, I’m like, ‘What was I thinking?!’ I wouldn’t wear that much fake tan now. I think you definitely learn from beauty disasters in your youth. I learned my lesson!”

And in response to Irish people feeling like a ‘beacon’ on the beach, Vivienne says, “A great tip before you go away is, just wear less at home! If I’m in the house by myself, literally I’ll nearly walk around naked because it makes you more comfortable about your body and also, that’s how you’re going to be on the beach in your bikini!”
