Ouch! So This Is Why Wearing Your Hair In A Ponytail Gives You A Banging Headache

Makes sense, TBH.

Ariana Grande

It’s what OITNB’s Maritza dubbed “nature’s face lift” but according to recent news wearing your hair up isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Case in point, the ballerina who claims she wore her hair tied up in a bun so much that her hair fell out. True story.

Now a neurologist has revealed that wearing your hair in a ponytail may be the reason behind that pounding 3pm migraine.

But, um, why? It’s all because of nerve sensitivity.

“Patients don’t realise they have a migraine because it’s often undiagnosed,” Dr Denise E. Chou explains to Cosmo. “People with migraines end up suffering from hypersensitivity to the nerves around their face and scalp.”

5 Of The Best Hairstyles For Second Day Hair

“When you wear your hair in a tight bun or ponytail, or a weave, or extensions, that will pull the nerves in the scalp. That pulling of the nerves will activate the sensory nerves even more, this can result in the headache itself.”

So what’s the alternative when you’re two days post shampoo? Fortunately, you don’t have to ditch the faithful ponytail all together, just be sure to tie it more loosely. Opting for no-crease or snag-free hair ties can help too.

A heads up: If your scalp feels sore when you take your hair down at the end of the day, then you’ve definitely tied your pony too tight. Keep it loose for a pain-free do.
