She says she meant no offence.

Halloween is generally an excuse to dress as bizarrely as you want, but it’s still possible to take things too far.

TOWIE’s Amber Dowding found herself the subject of some online criticism this week, after she posted a particularly controversial picture of her Halloween costume on Instagram. The 23-year-old, who only joined the show last month after starting to date cast member Chris Clark, shared a snap ahead of TOWIE’s Halloween filming day which showed her with bloodied wrists and a wounded neck.

Just a sneak peak of today’s look,” she told her followers, adding that a “full outfit picture” would follow. However Amber’s decision to hold off on posting a full-length snap backfired spectacularly, as many followers wrongfully assumed her bloodied arms were meant to indicate slit wrists.

“This is absolutely disrespectful and hurtful,” wrote one follower. “This isn’t what I’d call Halloween, more the consequence of self harm, not nice,” wrote another.

Amber soon stepped in, commenting on her own post to say that her blood-covered arms were meant to be “cuts from handcuffs” as part of her “escaped prisoner” costume. “I am sorry if I have upset anyone,” she wrote. Minutes later the TOWIE star shared this snap, backing up her defence:

Amber’s co-stars Megan McKenna, Kate White and Danielle Armstrong kept things a little more traditional with their costumes.

Lots of Halloween inspiration there – just avoid bloodied arms, maybe….
