We headed to Christoph Eye Couture to get a set ourselves.

Most of us don’t have the time, patience or ability to be applying and removing fake eyelashes every time we want to get ourselves dolled up. The thought of getting eyelash extensions can be quite daunting though, it’s weird thinking about someone poking and prodding around at your eyelids with a pair of tweezers. So if you’re curious and perhaps a little nervous about lash extensions and thinking of getting yourself a set, here’s everything you need to know first.

Where We Went

We went to Christoph Eye Couture in The Powerscourt Centre on South William Street, Dublin 2. The silk eyelashes start off at €49 and they are Christoph’s own brand. You can also get a pamper package for €77. With the pamper package, you’ll get your lovely set of eyelashes applied and at the same time, there’ll be a nail technician working on your nails, and a brow artist fixing up your brows too! The package takes about one hour and 15 minutes.

1. So, what happens?

Your lower eyelashes are secured down and you do have to keep your eyes closed for the duration of the treatment. It might sound scary but it’s actually quite relaxing and you might even fall asleep. The eyelash technician applies individual silk lashes on to your own individual lashes with tweezers and adhesive glue. You’ll have to get a patch test 24 hours before you get your lashes applied.

2. What are the lashes made from?

The lashes are made of silk and we had 16 different lengths to choose from, in three thicknesses. Different types suit different people so you’ll get a consultation and the most natural looking style will be picked for you. The most popular type is the Classic Look, in one dimension or three dimension.

3. How long do they last?

The lashes last for between four and seven weeks, depending on how well you look after them. You’ll be given an aftercare leaflet outlining exactly what you need to do in order to get the most longevity out of your extensions.

4. Can you use your usual products?

You can wash your face and eyes as usual but oil-based products aren’t recommended as they damage the adhesive. When you have the extensions on, you really won’t feel the need to wear mascara at all but if you do, there’s a special water soluble mascara that you can purchase to get the maximum amount of time out of your extensions.

5.Is it painful?

The procedure feels a bit peculiar to begin with but it doesn’t hurt at all. Your eyes might well up a little bit but before long you won’t even notice what’s going on.

6. Do they cause damage?

The lashes don’t cause any damage once they are applied correctly and properly. It might be worthwhile investing in an eyelash brush to prevent them from getting tangled. As the lashes begin to fall off, you might feel a desire to rub or pull at the remaining lashes, but it’s important that you avoid doing this. It will only cause your eyes to get irritated.

7. Can everyone get them?

If you suffer from Alopecia or are undergoing Chemotherapy, you won’t be able to get eyelashes put on. If not, you’re 100%  eligible, regardless of how thin or thick your own natural eyelashes are.

8. How do you get them off?

Because each lash extension is attached to a single eyelash, they will fall out naturally along with the natural growth cycle of each lash. That usually takes about three weeks. You can get refills after the three week mark, which means you don’t have to get a whole new set put on.
