Ex-hurricane Ophelia made landfall in Ireland at around 10am this morning and has already left thousands of people in Cork, Kilarney and Galway without power.

Moments ago, minister Simon Coveney described the weather event as “uncharted territory” during a segment on Morning Ireland, and people across the country have been sharing picture and video updates of conditions in their area online.

Met Eireann has issued a nationwide red status alert for the hurricane and people are strongly advised to stay indoors until the storm passes.
