Lady Gaga Just Got The Exact Same Tattoo As Her Dad For A Heartbreaking Reason

She unveiled the new tatt on Instagram yesterday.

Lady Gaga is no stranger to tatts. In fact, the singer already has around 20 of them, including a peace sign on her wrist and a unicorn on her upper thigh.

Now she’s added some new ink art and this time around it comes with a very special meaning.

See not only is the new tattoo an exact replica of her Dad’s, but it’s also to honour her late aunt Joanne, who died of lupus at the age of 19.

The new tattoo is simply her aunt’s signature inked in italic writing across the inside of Gaga’s forearm, and matches the title of her fifth studio album – also called Joanne.

“My dad got one too. With an angel on his shoulder,” Gaga wrote under the pic.

Got Joanne tattooed on my arm in her actual signature. My dad got one too. With an angel on his shoulder.

Strangely enough though, it seems that Gaga’s dad isn’t actually all that keen on tattoos, which is why she is inked only on the left side of her body.

“He asked that I remain, on one side, slightly normal,” she explained during an interview at Google HQ in 2011.

In a more recent interview with Howard Stern, Gaga explained the impact her aunt Joanne had on her earlier years.

“She’s like this goddess that we worshipped in our family our whole lives,” she explained. “Her picture was always up, and it was framed so beautifully in the house. We talked about her all the time, every family meal… she was like a guardian angel or spirit guide.”

She added: “I never understood why my father drank so much and why he was so angry and why he was so overprotective and why his eyes would just blister out of control when I showed a sign of independence or wanting to leave the house or be on my own.”

“And I always thought it was my fault.  So this album for me was about healing the wounds of being a young woman growing up in a tough family and figuring that out.”
