Wait, What?! Starbucks Are Apparently Misspelling Your Name ON PURPOSE And The Reason Why Is So, So Smart

Now this is clever.

Starbucks

How many times has it happened to you? You’ve queued up for your totes delish (and er, totes overpriced) caffeinated beverage, placed your order, given your name (making sure to enunciate) and handed over your cash.

So far, so good. And then you get your coffee and it appears some joker behind the till has completely butchered your name into something incomprehensible.

It’s happened to loadsa people. Just look…

But if you thought that all these people simply weren’t stating their names clearly enough or that all Starbucks employees must have flunked spelling class, well it looks like your assumptions are quite a bit off the mark.

The real reason they’ve effed up your name? A new video claims it’s actually a clever marketing tactic.

Think about it: with so many people taking to social media to vent about their misspelled name, complete with a pic of their new Starbucks brew, it’s pretty much free advertising for the company.

In other words, it works as a kind of viral advert.

SO. CLEVER. Right?

Of course, this could all be conspiracy. After all, coffee shops can be pretty noisy places sometimes and we’re normally in a semi sleep-induced state when we’re placing our orders, so maybe it’s just an error in communication.

Still, we kinda like the idea that someone was smart enough to dream this up.
