Breadcrumbing Is The Latest New Dating Trend And We Are So Not Able For It

We can almost guarantee you've had this done to you.

Dating

The course of true love never did run smoothly, but as dating gets more and more complex in this technological age, it seems that things are getting ever the more tricky.

First there was ghosting. An increasingly popular trend that sees love interests cop out of a new relationship by simply vanishing, without so much as a text for explanation. Sound, lads.

Then came the rise of the fuckboy, the guy who – you guessed it – is really only in it for one thing but will likely lead you to think otherwise. The b*stard.

Now perhaps the worst of the three has come along to make our single lives all the more miserable.

Let us introduce you to Breadcrumbing, a dating tactic that you’ve likely had played on you at some point or another.

A breadcrumber is the love interest who’s gone cold but reemerges into your life every now again, normally around the point that you’re just starting to get over them.

What To Do When A Guy Ghosts You: A Firsthand Perspective

He’s the guy that coldly ended things – perhaps by using one of the methods mentioned above – but decides to drop you a line two, three or even six months down the line, just to keep you interested in him and generally eff with your brain.

Then he’ll text you intermittently before falling off the radar all over again.

“You almost can’t believe this creature has come back into your life,” says recent graduate Alice Winokur of the trend. “But there he is, saying, ‘Hey, I was just thinking about you’.”

Yeah, we hear you Alice, but what’s the fix?

Sadly, short of blocking your breadcrumber there’s not much you can do, but it can help to remember that no matter what the infuriating dating trend, one truth remains:

If a fella’s using any of these methods to keep you at arm’s length then they’re probably just not that into you, and you know what? That’s totally okay, because one day, somebody will be, and to quote Bridget Jones’ Mr Darcy you’ll tick all of their boxes “just the way you are.”
