Muscle has a higher density than fat, a known fact amongst personal trainers and fitness junkies alike. But if you’re wondering what relevance that information really has to your own life, these pictures should make it pretty clear.

Dutch fitness blogger Yola shared two before-and-after photos recently, one showing her back in 2013 at 58kg (9st 2lbs), and the other this year at 64kg (10st 1lb).

While her measurements look roughly similar in each, the main difference is how toned she appears in the second photo – despite being almost a full stone heavier.

“I was scrolling back in my phone and found this ‘old’ (non-flexed) picture. Weight is just a number,” Yola wrote, to prove her point.

As Yola’s photos prove, the more you include strength training and regular workouts in your routine, the less accurate the scales become in showing you your body’s make-up.

After all, how you feel in your body depends on much more than just a number – it’s about energy levels, how your clothes fit, if you’re sleeping well, and what you’re eating.

So ditch those bathroom scales, people. We guarantee you’ll feel better for it.
