Female Viagra Is Officially On The Market – Here’s Everything You Need To Know

We're intrigued.

We’re all aware of the ‘little blue’ Viagra pills that are available for men. But what if there was an alternative for women? Well, now there is.

A few years back Addyi came on to the scene, and was described essentially as a female Viagra. However, a few days after the medicine was approved, the company selling the pill was sold.

Now Addyi has been relaunched at half the price than before, and available online.

So what exactly is it?

Addyi is a daily pill approved to treat hypoactive low sexual desire disorder (HSDD) in women. According to the drug’s website, women with HSDD have low sexual desire not caused by a medical or mental health problem or by a problem in their relationship.

Viagra works to improve blood flow to the genital area, which can help men get and keep erections. Addyi, on the other hand, targets neurotransmitters in the brain like serotonin and dopamine that makes women feel good and increase sex drive.

How do you get it?

It’s now available over the phone, and at half its original price, but there are strict requirements to meet before you can get the drug. You must call the number on their site and provide your medical history and information to get the pill.

What is the controversy surrounding Addyi?

Experts have argued over how well Addyi actually works. In trials of more than 11,000 people, a little more than half of the women involved reported some noticeable benefit.

Dr Snyder from Addyi tells his patients that the drug may help some women who fit the criteria for a prescription, but that others are likely to see no effect.

“Our number one objective is ensuring that women have access to this treatment,” Cindy Eckert, the person responsible for the re-launch, said.
