Kim Kardashian Responds To THAT ‘Cultural Appropriation’ Criticism

People have been having VERY mixed reactions.

Kim Kardashian swapped her long, platinum locks for a headful of cornrows, and she’s been the target of major criticism because of it.

The 37-year-old debuted the new look on Instagram and Twitter last night, but many people accused her of cultural appropriation. The hairstyle is native to African and Caribbean countries, and people aren’t impressed that Kim, a white woman, decided to have it done.

“Kim you look great but this is not an appropriate hairstyle for you to wear, please take it out and read up on cultural appropriation,” one person tweeted.

Others aren’t happy that she referred to the style as ‘Bo Derek braids.’ Bo Derek is a white American actress who adopted the cornrows hairstyle in the 1970s. People are upset that Kim credited her for the hair inspo rather than the Caribbean culture.

Of course, there are two sides to every story, and a lot of people don’t see a problem with Kim getting braids at all. One person said, “Of all the things in the world to be outraged by, people are screaming cultural appropriation at Kim K. Let her have braids if she wants braids…? .”

Another person said, “I’m not a fan of hers by any means but Kim K being called out for ‘cultural appropriation’ for having braids is nonsense. Should we call Beyoncé out for having straight hair too?”

Kim isn’t phased by any of the criticism, and she took to her own Twitter page to say, “Hi, can I get zero fucks please, thanks.”

What are your thoughts on it all?
