2018 was definitely the year of the breakup. We actually couldn’t even keep up with the number of celebrity splits that occurred over the last year, leaving us on the edge of our seats hoping and praying that our favourite couple wouldn’t be next. From Jenna and Channing to Pete and Ariana, we’ve compiled a list of the biggest celebrity breakups that broke our heart and shook us to the literal core. Tissues at the ready.

Cardi B & Offset

Rappers Cardi B and Offset called quits on their marriage this month after welcoming their first child together, Kulture Kiari, in July. Cardi announced the devastating news on her Instagram and Offset has made it very clear he wants her back, tweeting “FUCK YALL I MISS CARDI” in the days following the announcement. TBH, we’re not too sad about this because he seems like a snake.

Robert De Niro & Grace Hightower

The world literally cried when Robert De Niro announced his split from his wife of 20 years Grace Hightower. The actor married Grace in 1997 after dating for an entire decade. They share two children together: 20-year-old son Elliott and 6-year-old daughter Helen Grace. Weeping.

Paris Hilton & Chris Zylka

Paris Hilton and Chris Zylka called it quits in November after getting engaged last January. This was a dramatic breakup as Chris apparently spent a BOMB on her ridiculous ring, and now he wants it back. We don’t blame him tbh.

G-Eazy & Halsey

G-Eazy and Halsey had the most dramatic on-again-off-again relationship of 2018. They plastered their gooey love all over Insta so it’s understandable that people are hooked on the drama. They’ve unfollowed each other on the platform now though, so it must be donezo.

Ariana Grande & Pete Davidson

Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson’s whirlwind romance came to a halt in mid-October, four months after they became engaged. Ariana went on to write the best breakup song in the world after, saying she was super thankful for Pete despite the relationship ending – so we think they’re all good.

JWoww & Roger Mathews

Jenni ‘JWoww’ Farley filed for divorce from her husband of three years, Roger Mathews, in September. The two met while filming Jersey Shore, and since the split Roger has made it clear he is determined to get his gal back. They have two children: son Greyson Valor, 2, and daughter Meilani Alexandra, 4.

Kourtney Kardashian & Younes Bendjima

Kourtney Kardashian and her younger boyfriend Younes Bendjima called it on their 2 year relationship over the summer and rumour has it he was never very nice while they dated. He apparently had an issue with the sexy selfies Kourtney posts on Instagram, and once commented on a bikini pic of hers saying: “That’s what you need to show to get likes?” He’s defo cancelled.

John Cena & Nikki Bella

John Cena and Nikki Bella ended their relationship this year after what was an obviously turbulent few years. John made it clear he didn’t want kids and was literally emotionally unavailable, so understandably, Nikki told him: ‘thank you, next’. John has been open about his hopes that the two can reconcile, but we don’t see it coming any time soon.

Brooklyn Beckham & Chloë Grace Moretz

Brooklyn Beckham and Chloë Moretz never officially announced they had broken up, but everyone copped on when Brooklyn was spotted kissing another girl back in April. Chloë hinted through her Instagram that she was going through a hard time, and then eventually told Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen that she was single. Ah, to be young and heartbroken.

Cheryl & Liam Payne

Liam Payne and Cheryl — who first went public with their romance in 2015 — announced their split on Twitter in July. This breakup came as a shock to fans as the two had only just became parents to their first child, Bear. They seem to have ended on ok terms, but we’re still in mourning.

Ariana Grande & Mac Miller

Ariana Grande and Mac Miller broke up in May after 2 years of dating. TMZ reported that the couple split due to busy schedules, however it later became apparent that Mac’s alcohol and substance abuse played a part in the breakdown of the relly. This is probably the most heartbreaking breakup on the list, as Mac died from an apparent overdose just 3 months later.

Channing Tatum & Jenna Dewan

Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan’s divorce came out of nowhere. The couple were married for nine years before they announced their separation. Fans were understandably shook, but it looks like the two have both moved on with new partners. Doesn’t mean we’re ok with it though.

Jennifer Aniston & Justin Theroux

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux ended things in February after two and a half years of marriage — and seven years as a couple. We just want Jen to be happy!!

Lena Dunham & Jack Antonoff

Lena Dunham and Jack Antonoff parted ways in January after 5 years together, saying the breakup was “amicable”. The Girls creator and Bleachers frontman met on a blind date set up by Jack’s sister and comedian Mike Birbiglia in 2012. Things seemed to be fine at first, but things got dirty when Jack was accused of cheating on Lena with her friend, Lorde. Jack has denied the allegations but understandably, there’s some love lost there.
