Plans In Dublin City This Weekend? Beware, There Will Be MAJOR Traffic Disruptions

Between Friday night and Tuesday morning. *sigh*

The August Bank Holiday is fast approaching, but if you’re planning on spending any of it in or around Dublin city, you’ll want to allow yourself some extra time.

Thanks to the latest phase of the Luas Cross City works on O’Connell Bridge, there will be diversions, closings and general hellish delays all weekend long.

Oh, goody!

The main changes to keep in mind are as follows, and these apply from 20.00 on Friday July 29th to 06.00 on Tuesday August 2nd.

  • The quays at O’Connell Bridge (both sides) will be closed to eastbound and westbound traffic
  • Major traffic diversions throughout the city, so use the Inner Orbital Route if possible (marked by light blue road signs)
  • Dublin Bus routes using Bachelors Walk, Eden Quay and O’Connell Bridge will be affected (full list here)

Rather than drive, Dublin City Council are recommending that you use public transport where possible, or if course walk it if you can.

To make things a little easier, there will be additional Luas and DART services rather than Bank Holiday timetables, free parking at Luas Park and Ride stops from Friday – Monday, free travel for kids with valid Child Leap Cards, and maintenance of car park access as much as possible.

Our recommendation? Flee the city and spend your weekend somewhere with No. Cars. Whatsoever. Just saying…
