Hello 00s? The Itsy Bitsy Skirt Is Taking Over
Micro-minis are having a moment!

Paris Hilton once said, “skirts should be the size of a belt; life’s short, take risks.” And her philosophy is being adopted by every style icon about. Largely thanks to one trend setting piece; The Miu Miu Mini Skirt.
The Miu Miu mini skirt has caused a massive stir in the fashion world. The micro mini is, of course, as short as a skirt could be, with the pockets actually being longer than the hem. It’s also low rise, hugging the hips, with a tattered hem and typically styled with a crop top. The bold and quite frankly bare look isn’t for the faint hearted (or those who live in cold climates, thank you, Ireland.)
It is available from Miu Miu costing โฌ820.

But while the look is daring, it’s managed to succeed, going viral, becoming the “it” accessory, and finding a loyal following from nearly every influencer and it girl. Being worn by the likes of…

Perhaps it is the Irish in me, but at first glance, the thing that comes to mind when seeing that skirt is “Christ, it would be freezing.” The short length combined with a crop top doesn’t seem all that practical when there are about two weeks of sunshine here. Any other time and I fear you’ll just freeze until your belly button turns blue.
Why not wear a warmer top with the skirt? Truthfully, a lot of hype around this skirt comes down to the styling, and the styling is typically the same. The skirt could pair well with a longer top, but you’d lose a lot of the freeing, fun style that the skirt can offer. The long pocket also adds an extra challenge introducing another colour to work with.
So essentially, it’s an impractical and difficult to style pieceโฆ and yet I still can’t help but adore it. It’s managed to capture the cultural moment, and any item that does that deserves some respect. But more so than that, the return of the mini skirt has been a long time coming. Since its rise in popularity during the sixties thanks to Mary Quant and mod fashion, the mini skirt has been a bold statement.

And today, it still manages to have that impact, ushering out the era of muted and sensible and encouraging a bubbly and playful style.
While the Miu Miu skirt may be challenging to style that’s piece-wise, as a whole, it’s quite versatile working with Zenedaya’s hyper glam retro-futurism look to Olivia Neill’s more relaxed take.
Of course, it doesn’t have to be the Miu Miu mini itself that gets you embracing itsy bitsy skirts, there are plenty of other super short options to pick.
