Is The OC Planning A Revival?

We’ve all gone mad for a little TV show revival action this past year from Gossip Girl to That 90s Show, and it seems we’ve requested another early 00s fave to return to our screens.

The OC was an early-mid 2000s drama that followed a troubled teenager as he navigated a new life in the wealthy area of Newport Beach in Orange County, California. The show was particularly popular for its ability to promote new and upcoming indie/rock bands.

Over a decade later our fave The OC alum Adam Brody has swapped his beloved comic books for an actual super hero cape as he took on the role of a lifetime in Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

At the premier for the new superhero movie last week Adam reminisced with E!News about playing his iconic OC character Seth Cohen saying: “I was so excited to be starting that journey, excited to see people enjoying it. It was such a nice fit for me and the character, feeling really in sync with the writers”.

So, did seeing his wife Leighton Meester’s show, Gossip Girl, get a reboot make Cohen nostalgic for a trip back to Newport Beach 20 years later?

Unfortunately it seems like a no, unless someone comes up with a killer idea and ups the budget. Adam commented saying: “If there was a reason, like a really inspired idea? Yes. Other than that, probably not. No. And by ‘inspired idea,’ I mean lots and lots of money”.

He’s previously said on the Welcome To The OC, Bitches podcast, hosted by fellow alums Rachel Bilson and Melinda Clarke, that he thinks they’re in a different place now: “I kind of don’t think it can be done because I feel like, socially, I think we’re in a different place. I think we’re in a more conscious place”.

He went on to liken teen series Gossip Girl and The OC to each other in terms of affluence and peer influence saying: “I feel like The OC, while it claims to be in a similar sense of Gossip Girl, while it would sort of say it’s a critique, it’s not. It’s a celebration of affluence, in my opinion.

“Obviously, like, in the heart of it, there’s people who are lovely. It’s a family at the heart of it, too. There’s people who love each other and care for each other and sacrifice for each other. So, it’s not a pure celebration of money. It’s a celebration of, you know, love and romance and being in high school”.
