We're obsessed

Quiet luxury is the trend of the moment.
Thanks to the latest season of Succession or our recent obsession with Sofia Richie’s wedding, everyone is now looking to step out acting like they’ve got a trust fund and a summer house in the south of France.
But if you’ve not quite got the budget to be swathed head to toe in cream cashmere and tailoring from The Row, but still want to give off Roy family vibes this summer, we have the hair trend for you.
Counting Suki Waterhouse and Sofia Richie as fans, ‘earth blonde’ is a more natural looking blonde than the platinum shades currently sported by the likes of Gigi Hadid and Molly Mae Hague.
The term was conceived by hair stylist and trend forecaster Tom Smith who told Glamour that the shade was” “Sitting between the border of brunette and blonde but without the rich, caramel tones of a typical bronde, this shade is closer to ash and whispers blonde rather than shouts.”
Earth blonde is a more muted shade with more depth and a bit more of a root, allowing it to look more natural. With that being said, you’ll still need a good purple shampoo to get rid of any brassy tones, like the John Frieda Violet Crush Shampoo or the Charles Worthington Colour Plex Ultra Violet Shampoo.
So, what do you ask for next time you’re at the salon?
Since earth blonde has a variety of shades, you should ask your hairdresser for a blend of cool taupe and a beige tone that complements your skin tone. Your stylist will have an idea and be able to advise you on what colours would best suit you.
Definitely bring pictures with you of the shade you like so your hairdresser can have a visual representation of what you want. For the process itself, it depends on what colour you are starting from and the look you and your hairdresser decide on. This could include lowlights, highlights or a custom toner to create the dimension and tone in your hair.
Margot Robbie’s take on the style includes lighter sections at the front and then a blended neutral shade with slightly darker roots.

While Suki Waterhouse goes even ashier with lighter colours blended throughout.

Finally the queen of stealth wealth style herself, Sofia Richie goes for a darker root colour for reduced maintenance with high and lowlights blended seamlessly throughout.
