Laura Fox: ‘People Are Terrified of Failing. I Just Don’t Care!’
Our March/April issue is out - now!
There were a couple of reasons why Laura Fox wanted to be a radio presenter.
The first was that radio was such a massive thing when she was in school.
“It was such a big deal when I was growing up,” she says. “We didn’t have social media like we do now. So when I was a teenager I was in my room listening to the radio every single night.
“They had this Love Hour on Galway Bay FM and the whole school would be texting in. You’d be texting in jokes about who fancies who and sending in your crushes and we’d always be talking about it in school.”
The second reason was: “I just like to talk, a lot!”
The 2FM presenter, DWTS contestant, and Ireland’s Fittest Family host has had a lot going on in recent years.
Laura says that a big part of her success has come from not being afraid to ask for what she wants… and not being afraid to fail.
“I think it’s very specific to this industry, people are terrified of failing,” she says. “Nobody wants to admit they went for a screen test for something.
“In the real world, if you were going to a corporate job you’d tell everyone. Ego has a lot to play in this industry. I understand it because it can be brutal and you want to protect yourself at all costs. I just don’t care!
“With Dancing, I’m not joking when I say I’ve been emailing them since season 3 or 4. I got an email and I ran with it! It’s how I got into radio too. I was selling myself as Miss Galway, and I hadn’t been Miss Galway for 5 years! It wasn’t even relevant.”
