The Olympics are kicking off this weekend.

We’ve looked back at the incredible female athletes who have made history over the course of the competition.

But now we’re looking forward to the amazing Irish women ready to fight for their place on the podium.

Maeve Kyle was the first Irish female Olympian when she competed in the 1956 Olympic Games.

This year marks the first time ever that there will be an equal number of women and men representing Ireland in the Games.

It is also the first time Ireland will have a woman competing in every possible boxing weight class.

While we’re very proud of Team Ireland as a whole, we want to give a special shout out to the incredible Irish women who will be flying the tricolour over the next few weeks.

We’ve made a comprehensive list of every female Irish athlete to look out for over the course of the Games.
