Rest And Recharge In This Gorgeous Boutique Limerick Hotel

Looking to explore Limerick in style? Check out this boutique town house...

I don’t know about you, but I simply love going for a weekend break away this time of year. And yes, while many people may choose a holiday abroad, I tend to opt for something a little closer to home. Whether it’s the crisp cool air, accompanied by a warm sun or the abundance of colourful crunchy leaves I see every time I step outside, there really is nowhere more beautiful than our little emerald isle on a perfect autumn day. Now, don’t get me wrong, there is plenty of rain and hail to be expected this time of year too. However, when I made the trip down to Limerick recently, I was thankfully greeted with nothing less than pure October goodness.

I was only ever in Limerick once for a brief few hours when I was a mere teenager, so I was excited to see what the city had to offer. I stayed in the effortlessly chic No.1 Pery Square, a luxurious and intimate boutique townhouse hotel conveniently situated in Limerick’s historic Georgian Quarter. The setting was beautiful, as it overlooked the seasonally aesthetic tree-lined People’s Park. As luck would have it, I was booked into the Park room for my night stay which, you guessed it, provided wonderful views of the neighbouring park. My room, much like the rest of the hotel, was filled with character and charm. Despite featuring one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever encountered and a beautiful vintage Rovers radio, the real highlight for me was the deep roll top and copper bathtub in the ensuite. Along with the tub, included a refreshing monsoon shower, Voya organic beauty amenities as well as two complimentary robes and a pair of slippers.

After checking in, we had a quick look around the city centre which is only a five-minute walk away, before returning to our room and getting ready for our hour-long spa treatment. The Heritage Spa offers a wide range of treatments from massages and facials, to body wraps, organic baths, foot and hand rituals, as well as holistic therapies and much more. All of the spa treatments also include an hour in the spa thermal suite, where you can avail of a herbal cocoon, coal bunker Finnish-style sauna, aroma steam room, Irish mist showers, a snooze room and sole pool foot baths. Safe to say, I tried each and every one, before it was time to meet with our wonderful therapists Vandi and Thayane for a Self-Discovery Radiance Facial. The treatment was nothing short of perfection and depending on your skin type, your therapist can also alter the facial to suit your needs. Along with detoxifying, cleaning and toning my skin with Voya products, my therapist also incorporated a relaxing facial massage to release any build-up of toxins and to repair and nourish my skin cells. My skin felt amazing after, and was glowing so much that I even decided to go makeup-free for dinner – sure why not!

Dinner was served in The Long Room, which had a suave yet relaxed atmosphere to it. All the dishes take inspiration from Limerick’s local food heritage, utilising produce that is right on their doorstep. To kick off the meal, I opted for a cold glass of rose, before digging into the 10 oz rib eye steak, served alongside chunky house fries, a smoked portobello mushroom and peppercorn jus. The steak was perfectly cooked to my liking and I did my best not to stuff it all immediately into my mouth. Dessert ended the evening on a perfectly sweet note: the chocolate pot de creme which was wonderfully gooey and rich. Finally, I had a latte to cleanse the palette before retiring back to my room for the night.

Back at the room, it was time for a relaxing bath, because let’s face it, it would be rude not to, before getting changed into my cosy robe and drifting off to the sounds of Confessions of a Shopaholic playing in the background. After a restful night’s sleep, it was time for breakfast which was served in the dining room upstairs. The eclectic theme continued throughout, which I appreciated and the menu had an array of inviting options just waiting for us to choose from. Priced at a reasonable €25 per person, it includes a glass of fresh orange juice, granola or a fruit salad, a hot breakfast option and a choice of tea or coffee. I had the house granola to start with seasonal fruit compote and organic natural yoghurt followed by the eggs benedict. Truthfully, I would come back for breakfast alone, it was that good!

Sadly, it was then time to pack up our bits and bid farewell to Pery Square. The service was top-notch throughout our stay, thanks to the attentive staff, while the location itself makes it a great choice for anyone looking for a memorable stay in Limerick. I will definitely be going back!
