Another Simple Favour finally has a release date, and we are buzzed!

When A Simple Favour hit screens in 2018, it delivered an irresistible blend of mystery, dark humour and stylish thrill. Now, the psychological thriller is back with a sequel ready to unfold more mystery, twists, secrets and unexpected relationships.

This sequel is set to dive deeper into the world of deception and drama that made the first film such a hit. But what can we expect this time? From returning characters and a new thrilling story, get comfy with a martini and let’s find out!

A Simple Favour, based on the novel of the same name by Darcy Bell, follows the story of two mothers, Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) and Emily (Blake Lively) who form an unexpected friendship.

As they get closer and learn more about each other, the story takes a turn when Emily suddenly goes missing. The movie follows Stephanie as she turns to investigate the sudden disappearance, unveiling dark secrets along the way.

The sequel sees the return of Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson, along with Henry Golding as Sean Townsend. Joining our main cast are more familiar faces such as Andrew Rannells, Ian Ho, Kelly McCormack and Bashir Salahuddin.

Lively’s return to the big screen comes amid recent headlines surrounding her legal case with fellow It Ends With Us star Justin Baldoni. 

There were rumours around Amazon deliberately delaying the release of ASF due to the mass attention on Lively at the moment, but director Paul Feig was quick to shut them down. “This is total BS. Sorry.”, Feig wrote on Twitter/X, responding to a now-deleted post stating that Amazon has “indefinitely shelved” the movie.

But now that we have a release date (May 1), what is this sequel about? The new film, “follows Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a rich Italian businessman.

“Along with the glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal to RSVP for a wedding with more twists and turns than the road from the Marina Grande to the Capri town square.” 

As the first film ends with Emily receiving a 20 year prison sentence, it appears that the new film is set to be after her release and what her post prison life is like. 

As with the first film, Feig has returned and directed the sequel. The script, based on Bell’s novel, was written by Jessica Sharzer who also worked on the script for the first film.

Another Simple Favour is set to release on May 1 2025 and you will be able to watch it on Prime Video. It will also be premiering as the opening night film at SXSW in Austin on March 7.
