Everything To Know About The I’m Glad My Mom Died Series
It's coming
I’m Glad My Mom Died is coming to the small screen too – and Jennifer Aniston is starring!
The bestselling memoir by Jennette McCurdy is being adapted by Apple TV+, and is sure to be one of the most talked about series of next year.
Jennette, a former childstar who found fame on iCarly, published her book in 2022.
It was a deeply honest, personal, and uncomfortable look back at her childhood, and the abuse she experienced at the hands of her mother – a woman who was determined to make her daughter famous.
As a result of this, as well as the stressors that came with being a Nickelodeon child actor, Jennette developed anxiety and an eating disorder. She also experienced bouts of depressive episodes, and struggled to make personal connections in her younger years.

I’m Glad My Mom Died is a story about suffering and the trappings of fame (particularly for children), but it’s also about survival, and the freedom that Jennette gained when her mother finally passed away.
Aniston, best known for her role in Friends, obviously, has been cast in the titular role of Jennette’s mother, Debra. She will also executively produce, alongside McCurdy, who will also write and showrun the series.
The series will be a dramedy, and will run for 10 episodes. It’s inspired by the memoir, and is a “heartbreaking and hilarious recounting of Jennette McCurdy’s struggles as a former child actor while dealing with her overbearing, domineering mother.
“The dramedy will center on the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress in a hit kids’ show, and her narcissistic mother who relishes in her identity as ‘a starlet’s mother.’”

Additional casting – and a release date – have yet to be announced, but it’s looking like I’m Glad My Mom Died will land on screens by 2026.
McCurdy previously said she wanted to make art about “the full colourfulness of what it means to be a person.”
She told The Hollywood Reporter: “Anything where the humor comes from a grounded place, a place of character flaw, a place of best intentions gone awry.
“Humor that comes from humanity is sort of my mission. So if there’s anything that fits that, that would be my dream to be a part of.”
