Moodscaping: The Wellness Phenomenon That’s Just Magic
Ambient vibes
Moodscaping: have you heard of it? If you’ve been curious about this new wellness phenomenon, you’re not alone.
It seems like this trend has exploded on the wellness scene. If you’re like me, you’re always looking for the best new method to improve your life and wellbeing. So why not give moodscaping a try?
What the trend is
Moodscaping is sensory driven and involves using scents and other things such as music to create an atmosphere of calm/happiness, etc. A moodscape as “a figurative landscape of moods or emotions.”
Its primary aim is to intentionally lift your mood or provide a sense of calm relief amongst the chaos of everyday life. Just as landscaping involves creating a garden full of calm and atmosphere, moodscaping involves using the elements to cultivate your mood to a certain frequency.
How to achieve it
There are many steps to achieving the healing benefits of moodscaping. The first step involves cultivating a satisfying auditory soundscape lush with atmosphere. There are many ways of doing this, and there is an array of different sounds you can incorporate into your moodscaping.
This can involve crafting Spotify playlists of high vibrational music that fits the atmosphere you’re trying to create. Alternatively, it can involve listening to ambient music or sound effects on YouTube. Some of my personal recommendations:
Music:
- Lemon Glow by Beach House
- Crystalised by The XX
- Eyes on Fire by Blue Foundation
- Video Games by Lana Del Rey
Ambient soundscapes:
A key aspect of moodscaping is cultivating a physical environment of peace and serenity. A main way of doing this is through home decor. Examples include throw pillows, blankets, teddies and fairy lights, candles etc.
I’m a big fan of jelly cats which are so cute and now available at Brown Thomas. Sometimes having an inanimate spirit animal of sorts can really lift your mood.
My favourite place to buy home decor is without a doubt TK Maxx. They have the cutest pieces for every season from Summer to Autumn and Winter. Their Halloween selection of home decor is a personal favourite of mine.
Scent
The scents chosen for your specific moodscape depend largely on the feelings you wish to evoke. If boosting energy levels is your prerogative, citrus scents are ideal. If you’re aiming for more relaxation, cozy scents such as vanilla, bergamot, or cinnamon are likely the best choice.
Candles are an effective way to incorporate moodscaping into your home. There is a broad selection of candles available from big brands like Yankee, Bath and Body Works and Lush to more affordable options at Penneys and Dunnes Stores.
Colour theory
Certain colours are scientifically proven to improve our mood. Some have an energetic effect such as yellow and orange while others promote relaxation such as blue and purple. Incorporating these colours into your moodscape can help improve your mood greatly.
Lighting
One must never underestimate the power of lighting. It has the ability to influence not only our mood but our concentration aswell. Soft, warm lighting is generally the best and can be achieved through the use of lamps and fairy lights.
Results
After doing research and trying it out myself, I can attest to the power and magic of moodscaping.
So, try it out and experience the magic for yourself!
