Summertime brings sun, heat and humidity. Which is great for us, but our makeup’s worst nightmare.

Getting makeup to last during the warmer months, especially while being on holiday can be a real challenge. However, with the right products and techniques, it is possible.

Here are all the best tips and tricks to keep your makeup looking flawless all day (even in summer!).

The best way to approach makeup during the summertime is by building up thin layers of each product. Our focus here is enhancing the natural warmth, glow and freckles that the good weather has already given us.

What we don’t want to do is apply thick layers of heavy product as this will most likely (literally) melt off of the skin.

It is super important that your skin is really hydrated (with moisturiser) and protected (with SPF) before you apply any makeup.

If possible give your skincare at least ten minutes before makeup application to let it sink in, and avoid excess slip. Staying on top of your water intake is also super important!

Primer will be your best friend during this time of year. It will not only make your makeup last much longer but it can also give you a super glowy/bronze base.

This is why we recommend layering a gripping primer and some sort of illuminating product. Focus the gripping primer on areas where you find your makeup comes off quickly or you get oily. Typically this includes the middle of the forehead, chin and nose.

Powder is an essential product for getting your makeup to last all day. As a dry skin girlie, I prefer to focus a light dusting of powder specifically on the areas of my skin that makeup tends to come off of quickly.

However, if you have extremely oily skin, you might prefer a more foolproof technique like the baking method by using a powder puff and a loose powder.

Applying a thin layer of cream products and then topping them all off with the powdered version will help your makeup last much longer. For example, use a cream bronzer first and then set that with your favourite powdered bronzer.

The final step of your long-lasting makeup routine is a good setting spray. This will also help your products all melt together and give the skin a super seamless look.
