“I think some of it was gendered”: The Traitors Katelyn discusses online trolling

Honestly, we think The Traitors Ireland is the best version of the show so far.

And Traitor Katelyn has to agree. “I think it’ll be part of Reeling in the Years in years to come,” she says with a laugh as we catch up with her after her banishment.

While we think she shone on screen, she has admitted that since the show started airing she has been getting a lot of hate online.

“I don’t think I did anything that justified some of the commentary I got,” she confesses about the trolls.

“I think some of them are a bit gendered and a bit loaded. I think it is a bit sad that in 2025, when a woman shows some strength in a competitive environment that she attracts such disproportionate hostility. I stood up for myself. I’m a strong person. I am very resilient, and I have a lot of love and happiness in my life.”

So how has she dealt with online negativity?

“I have had to block a lot of people who have been borderline harassing me all day. They’re choosing a path of misery, whereas I have so much love, friendship and happiness in my life. Thankfully, there has been a lot more love than there has been hate but it’s to be expected.”

She is quick to remind everyone that “it is just a game”.

“I don’t mind if people say, ‘Oh she’s a crap Traitor’. But I’ve had people who have been messaging me every day or they’re commenting under everything. They’re the only people who I would block because it’s quite personal and repetitive. I try not to engage with the comments mostly.”

Tensions certainly boiled over in Slane Castle so we had to ask did she expect to get so invested and emotional in the game.

“I did not expect to get that emotional, to be honest. Nothing can prepare you for it. It’s such high stakes, it’s such close quarters. You’re playing a character, you’re getting heat all the time and you’re tired as well! We’re not getting a whole lot of sleep.”
