Understanding 6-7: The Meme That Dominated Gen Alpha This Year

Don't worry fellow millennials, I've got you

If you’ve clicked into this article I’m sorry. I’m sorry that you don’t know what 6-7 is – and I’m even more sorry that you felt the need to educate yourself on it.

6-7 is, simply, a meme. A meme that the kids are using, the generation alpha kids, specifically. A generation that I personally know so little about, who are becoming more and more prominent online as they grow up.

The meme is this: you simply see the numbers 6 and 7 together and you alert whoever is in the immediate vicinity about this fact.

6-7, unlike other memes, has no fixed meaning but it does have an origin. The origin doesn’t make much sense either though.

The phrase itself is found in a 2024 rap song by artist Skrilla. The lyrics go: ย “…ย I know he dyin’ (oh my, oh my God) 6-7, I just bipped right on the highway (Bip, bip).”

Skrilla himself didn’t assign any particular meaning to the lyric, though others have hypothesised that it relates to 67th street in Chicago or Philadelphia.

Others have suggested that 6-7 is associated with the official US police code to notify a death, 10-67, however Skrilla has said that he, “never put an actual meaning on it, and I still would not want to.”

The meme started gaining traction on TikTok among NBA accounts (who used it alongside clips of athletes who are, indeed, 6ft, 7), and, of course, 6-7 Kid.

6-7 Kid is a boy named Maverick Trevillian, who was filmed by YouTuber Cam Wilder, shouting ‘6-7!’ over and over while performing a hand gesture. The video soon went viral and so, the meme went worldwide.

6-7 became so widespread that ‘what is 6-7?’ was, in fact, one of the most Googled phrases of the year in Ireland in 2025.

According to their Year in Search, questions about the meme were up there along with ‘what is listeria?’ and ‘what is a tariff?’

6-7 was even named word of the year by dictionary.com, defined as “a burst of energy that spreads and connects people long before anyone agrees on what it actually means”.

Alternatively, the Merriam-Webster dictionary defines 6 7 as “a nonsensical expression connected to a song and a basketball player”, while others have dubbed it a further symptom of brain rot among the younger generation.

Checks out, honestly.
