Time to go back to the cottage

The internet’s favourite gay hockey show, Heated Rivalry, is officially getting a second season – and thank god for that.

It’s safe to say that the Canadian sports romance starring Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams has taken the world by storm.

We’ve become enamoured with the secret love affair, we’re obsessed with The Cottage, we’re really into ice hockey now, for some reason.

Storrie and Williams even made their Golden Globes debut over the weekend, storming the red carpet to much furore and presenting the award for Best Supporting Female Actor.

A lot of people were fairly excited to see them – including Charli xcx, who shared a TikTok ahead of the awards saying “@ connor wya.”

The series is truly having a moment, and with a second season already on the way, it’s looking like we’ve got plenty more Heated Rivalry to look forward to.

Canadian streaming network Crave and HBO Max announced the news on Christmas Day with the latter sharing on social media: “The game’s not over.”

“Watching our show become an international phenomenon has been extraordinary,” creator Jacob Tierney and executive producer Brendan Brady said in a statement.

“We’re profoundly grateful to everyone that has been on this journey with us. Being renewed for a second season so early is a true honour, and we can’t wait to bring you even more of what you love.”

Little is known about the plot of season two yet, but we do know that Storrie and Williams will be back (they’re both under contract for three seasons), and that there’ll be plenty of rivalrous queer love – obviously.

What’s more is that creator Tierney told EW that audiences won’t have to wait all that long for more episodes.

“It will not be same time next year, but it’ll be pretty soon after that,” he said. “It’s not gonna be two years. It’s not even gonna be 18 months, I don’t think. So we’re gonna go as fast as we can, while ensuring that we’re doing as good a job as we possibly can.”

In the meantime, time for a rewatch on NOW, yeah?
