The New Kennedy TV Series Is Coming – Here’s EYNTK
Michael Fassbender, you say?
Michael Fassbender is taking on one of America’s most powerful dynasties, signing on to play JFK’s father, Joe Kennedy Sr., in an upcoming Netflix series.
Titled ‘Kennedy,’ the show is based on Fredrik Logevall’s book JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956.
Last year US entertainment trade publication Deadline reported that Netflix has commissioned an eight-episode first season.
Now the streamer has confirmed the news.
As for the storyline, the official synopsis teases: “Kennedy’ reveals the intimate lives, loves, rivalries and tragedies that shaped the most iconic dynasty in modern history, and helped create the world we live in today.
“Beginning in the 1930s, the first season charts the improbable ascent of Joe (Fassbender) and Rose Kennedy and their nine children, including rebellious second son Jack, who struggles to escape the shadow of his golden boy older brother.”
News of the series pickup comes nearly two years after Variety first revealed the project was in development at Netflix.
At the time, sources described it as an American counterpart to The Crown, following the Kennedy family’s ascent in U.S. politics across multiple seasons.
Who else is appearing in the show?
Laura Donnelly will play Rose Kennedy, Michael’s character’s wife. Nick Robinson will play Joe Kennedy Jr, Joshuah Melnick as Jack Kennedy and Lydia Peckham as Rosemary Kennedy
So looks like we will have plenty of episodes to look forward to!
While best known for his film work, Fassbender has earned acclaim for performances in 12 Years a Slave and Steve Jobs, both of which earned him Oscar nominations, as well as Inglourious Basterds, Shame, Frank, and multiple instalments of the Alien and X-Men franchises.
