3 Matcha Recipes To Celebrate World Matcha Day

It’s World Matcha Day on May 2nd – and you know what that means.

It’s time to drink some matcha, shout about the deliciousness of matcha, and of course, try out some new matcha recipes.

Matcha is tasty on its own, for sure. But it’s even more tasty when it makes an appearance in a drink that’s shaken, stirred, and full of other delicious flavours.

Here are some matcha drink recipes to celebrate the day – and we’re only dying to try them.

Cold Brewed Matcha/Tea Powder

Ingredients (per portion) 

  • 2–3 g matcha/tea powder
  • 5–10 g agave syrup (optional, to taste)
  • 0.1 g salt
  • 30 ml cold water

Method

Single portion:

1. Sieve the matcha/tea powder into a bowl or cocktail shaker

2. Add all other ingredients

3. Whisk or shake vigorously for 30 sec

Multiple portions:

1. Add all ingredients to a blender

2. Blend on low speed for approx 20–30 sec until no matcha lumps are left

3. Chill immediately

Mochi Matcha

Ingredients

  • 150ml Oatly Barista Edition
  • 40ml cold brewed matcha
  • Mochi balls
  • 170ml Oatly Barista Edition
  • 100g glutenous rice flour (plus more for dusting)
  • 40g sugar Matcha cold foam
  • 200ml Oatly Cold Foam
  • 5g matcha powder

Method

For the mochi balls:

1. Whisk all mochi ball ingredients together until smooth

2. Add to a pan and heat, stirring until the mixture comes together and forms a sticky dough (prepare for an arm workout)

3. Pour into a container and chill

4. Dust a flat surface with extra rice flour

5. Cut small pieces of the mochi mixture, rolling in the rice flour to keep them from sticking together

For the drink:

1. Add 40 g of mochi balls to a glass

2. Top with ice, Oatly Barista Edition and cold brewed matcha

3. Foam the matcha cold foam ingredients together using your preferred foaming tool

4. Finish the drink with aerated cold foam

Fig Leaf Matcha

Ingredients

  • 150ml Oatly Barista Edition (or Oatly Barista Edition Coconut Flavour)
  • 40ml cold brewed matcha
  • Fig leaf syrup
  • 4 fig leaves
  • 150g white sugar
  • 250ml boiling water
  • Ice

Method

For the fig leaf syrup:

1. Wash the fig leaves and put them into a container

2. Add sugar and water to a pan

3. Bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar

4. Pour the hot sugar syrup over the fig leaves

5. Leave to cool then refrigerate for at least 4 hours

6. Remove leaves and store refrigerated

For the drink:

1. Fill a glass with ice

2. Add 20 ml fig leaf syrup to a glass

3. Top with Oatly Barista Edition

4. Finish with cold brewed matcha
