It's unique alright

Molly Mae Hague and Tommy Fury welcomed their second child earlier this month – a baby boy.

The pair shared the news across their social media channels, announcing the birth of their first son alongside a video of daughter Bambi meeting her little brother for the first time.

Molly Mae has yet to share her son’s name online but dad Tommy revealed the news over the weekend during a boxing match saying, “This was for Midas Fury.”

Yep, Midas.

But what does Midas mean, and where does the name come from?

Midas is Ancient Greek in origin and alludes to wealth and success. According to Greek mythology, King Midas of Phrygia was granted one wish, and asked for everything he touched to be turned to gold.

While this made the king extremely wealthy it also meant that he starved as all of his food and drink also turned to gold.

The myth is generally seen as a monkey’s paw cautionary tale about the dangers of greed, but also has more recent roots in popular culture.

Midnight Star’s 80s song ‘Midas Touch’ is probably the most famous use of the name, referring to a person’s ability to become successful and make lots of money.

The lyrics are: โ€œIโ€™ve got the Midas touch / Everythinโ€™ I touch turns to gold (turns to gold).”

Taylor Swift also mentioned Midas in her song ‘Champagne Problems’ when she said: “Your Midas touch on the Chevy door,” so it’s clear that the name has become more related to wealth and success over the years.

Molly Mae has yet to share any more information about her son online, but she did attend Tommy’s boxing match over the weekend, sharing support for her partner.

“20,000 people in an arena last nightโ€ฆ but just us four this morning,” she wrote.

Delighted for them.
