The Amount Of Sugar In A Jar Of Nutella Will Shock You

But will it stop us eating it? Erm, no.

Nutella

Okay, before we get into the nitty gritty of what’s in your favourite jar of hazelnut, chocolatey goodness, let’s get one thing straight: we love the stuff and we reckon anything that makes us as happy as that great big jar of joy most certainly does us good.

That said, after hearing just what’s actually in our fave-o spread we might have to reserve Nutella as a now and again treat, instead of, er, slathering it liberally onto our toast every.single.day.

Yep, thanks to a video, which originally appeared in 2013, but is again doing the rounds on the internet, we’re seriously reconsidering one of our most loved treats.

In the vid, Dr Yoni Freedhoff, a Canadian physician refers to Nutella as ‘spreadable candy’ and goes on to explain that just two tablespoons of the stuff contains five and a half teaspoons of sugar. Eek!

To put that into perspective, your recommended daily allowance of sugar is six teaspoons a day. Pretty bad when you consider that you’d have nearly consumed your entire RDA with only two spoon dips.

Will we be ditching our fave-o chocolate spread as a result? Hell no, but we’ll maybe spread it on our toast a little more sparingly, and y’know, not eat it by the spoon load.
