Here’s Why You Should Never Post A Picture Of Your Boarding Pass Online

You’re in the airport. You’ve passed by the duty free (but not without making a few totally necessary purchases, obvs) and there’s another 45 minutes to kill before your flight.

Time to grab a coffee and set up a flat lay for Instagram that lets everyone know you’re jetting off somewhere exciting, right?

This is the part where you’ll grab your passport and boarding pass and arrange them in a cute snap so all your friends and followers can see the location that you’re jetting off to.

Big mistake.

You see, security-wise sharing all your flight details is a big no-no.

“Two-dimensional barcodes and QR codes can hold a great deal of information,” a security expert tells Business Insider. “And the codes printed on airline boarding passes may allow someone to discover more about you, your future travel plans, and your frequent flyer account.”

Yep, as much as you’re super excited to jet off, giving away all your flight info is the last thing you want.

That doesn’t mean you can’t let everyone know that you’re jetting off. Just do it sensibly. Keep barcodes and flight details out of site and never share the inside of your passport.
