Behind The Scenes On STELLAR’s August Issue Summer Lookbook Shoot
Wanna know what really happens on a glossy magazine photo shoot? The hair and make-up crew from our August issue share the deets.
This issue’s shoot was all about transition wear, showing you guys what to buy now and how you can take into the next season. Versatility was demonstrated throughout the shoot and that went right down to the hair and makeup. Talking to the experts, we found out how to create a super slick beauty look that suits every #OOTD
Hair – Aidan Darcy
The ultimate summer ‘do, Louise’s look for this month’s shoot was a classic polished wave. Easy to achieve and, thankfully, even easier to maintain, this style has a very relaxed feel, so no matter how long those summer nights last they won’t mess with your mane.
Aidan tells us how it’s done.
“To begin, I sprayed Louise’s hair all over with BedHead’s Superstar Queen for a Day by Tigi, and then blasted it dry to create volume and hold.
“Following this, I sectioned off the hair in to small, even amounts. Then using a wand, I curled the hair away from the face, curling each section of hair in the same direction until reaching nape of the neck.
“Then finally I brushed the waves out to create her softly groomed, laid-back look, kept in place with a spritz of BedHead’s Masterpiece Hairspray by Tigi.”
“Natural looking voluminous waves with a load of versatility, this style can easily be changed depending on how you brush it out and how much product you use.”
And voila – simple carefree curls for Summer, day or night.
Make up – Michelle Kinsella
By now you may have noticed our go-to girl for make-up, Michelle Kinsella, has a pretty solid pre-makeup game going on. Pestle and Mortar Pure Hyalrunoic Serum, La Roche Posay Hydraphase moisturizer and Laura Mercier Radiance Prime, are her three must-have prep products for every shoot.
Prepped to perfection, Louise is ready to go. Michelle fills us in on how she created this gorgeous beauty look.
“Wanting to let her beautiful skin and gorgeous freckles, shine, I went for a very low coverage foundation on Louise, using Mac’s Face and Body. This is a beauty must-have for the summer. Weightless on your skin, Mac’s Face and Body allows skin to breathe in the summer months while still providing that all important coverage.
“For that photo perfect finish, I then applied gentle dabs of concealer, from Dylan Bradshaw’s trio concealer in the places needed and set the look with Charlotte Tilbury’s Air Brush Flawless Finish Powder.
“For her eyes I used a brand new palette – Fuschia Makeup’s Nudes Eyeshadow Palette. A great selection of matte and shimmery nudes, these shadows created the perfect base to which I added a red/brown colour to from Charlotte Tilburry’s Dolce Vita palette. The eyes were then finished with a gentle smudge of pencil liner.
“Brows were defined ever so slightly with Benefit’s Brow Zing. With its mix of wax and powder, this brow product has a major cult following.
“For a little subtle definition, I used DB bronzer just under cheekbones, into temples and around hairline, contoured lightly to keep the face fresh looking.
“This was followed by Mac’s Soft and Gentle highlighter along all the high points on Louise’s face – cheekbones, brow bones, down the centre of the nose, Cupid’s bow and a tiny bit on the inner corner of the eyes. This lifts the face and gives it a beautiful, youthful fresh look. This was brought together with a pop of colour a la DB blush in ‘Tawny Peach’ on the apple of the cheeks.
“Last but not least, the lippy. A three step move, I used some of my favourite products to create Louise’s simmering smile. Starting with Charlotte Tilburry’s, ‘Pillow Talk’, I lined the lips for some added definition and volume. This was followed by Rosie for Autograph lipstick, ‘Rose Lace’, and completed with a dash of clear gloss.
“Rosie Huntington-Whitely’s latest line for M&S is one of the best celeb collabs in a long time and ‘Rose Lace’ is top of my hit-list of products.
“With its peachy, coral tone, this lipstick has a softness that is so fitting to this season’s beauty look. The best thing about it? It literally suits all skin tones and hair colours, although I particularly love it on blondes.”
