This Diver Is Getting Awful Stick For Proposing To His Girlfriend After Her Olympic Win
Some are saying he overshadowed her big moment.
Restaurants, festivals, concerts, the Rose Of Tralee… A public proposal is always a risky manouevre, even if your SO does say yes.
Olympic diver Qin Kai got down on one knee yesterday to ask his girlfriend of six years, He Zi, to marry him. But while he may have gotten the response he was hoping for from He, the rest of the world didn’t take the proposal quite so well.

Why? Well, he chose to do it just moments after He’s silver medal win for three-metre springboard diving, her first medal of the 2016 Olympics so far and the third medal of her Olympic career.
Given that Qin has already won a medal himself in this years Games – a bronze for the men’s synchronised three-metre springboard – he’s been getting a fair bit of negativity for overshadowing his now-fiancée’s big moment:
There’s something so very selfish about that Olympic proposal (and all public proposals. He totally hijacked her personal moment of glory.

I’ll never understand public marriage proposal, let alone one that steals the thunder, at an Olympic medal ceremony…

As for He, she seemed pretty chuffed with the proposal, saying it was unexpected but totally welcomed.
“We’ve been dating for six years, but I didn’t expect him to propose today. He said a lot of things, made a lot of promises, but I think the thing that touched me the most is I think this is the guy I can trust for the rest of my life,” she told the BBC.
Well, you can’t argue with that now, can you?
