This Is What Obama Is Doing On His First Holiday Since Departing The White House
'Michelle and I are off on a quick vacation, then we’ll get back to work.'
Former President Barack Obama and his family are keeping things pretty chill for their first trip away since leaving the White House, heading to California for some R&R. Barack was photographed over the weekend playing a round of golf on Rancho Mirage, at a private course owned by Oracle founder Larry Ellison.
After passing the US Presidential baton to Donald Trump on Friday January 21st, Barack took to Twitter to share a brief update with his followers.
“Hi everybody! Back to the original handle,” he wrote from his personal Twitter account, @barackobama. “Is this thing still on? Michelle and I are off on a quick vacation, then we’ll get back to work.”
11 Times Michelle And Barack Obama Were The Cutest Couple In All The Land
Barack and Michelle outlined some of their plans for the coming months in a video on Friday, aptly titled “What’s Next.” The couple explained they were taking some time out before rejoining the world of politics and philanthropy.
“After eight years in the White House, Michelle and I now rejoin all of you as private citizens,” Barack said, giving a thumbs up to the camera as Michelle added, “First, we’re going to take a little break.” The couple joked that they were “finally going to get some sleep,” and told viewers they’d be taking some time “to be with our family and just be still for a little bit.”
The pair also have plans for an unofficial social media hiatus, and said they “might not be online as much,” but encouraged fans to keep in touch via the Obama Foundation website, where they’re currently seeking submissions for ideas on how to move forward and which sort of projects to focus on.
Although the family may return to their Chicago roots in the coming years, for now they’ll still reside in Washington DC, as Sasha still has two years of high school to go. They’ll be living in the upscale DC neighbourhood of Kalorama, just two miles from the White House, in a rented nine-bedroom $5.3m mansion.
