10 Films Coming Out Later This Year That’ll Have You Reaching For The Popcorn
From action-packed thrillers to weepy tearjerkers.
2018 has been a good year for movies so far – from Black Panther, to A Quiet Place, to Ocean’s 8 and Hereditary, there’s been something for everyone.
We know there are probably loads of old classics or buzzed-about indie flicks you are dying to see, but 2018 still has a lot to offer. So here are the best movies still to come this year which will have you racing to the big screen.
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
The sequel to the 2008 (yes it’s been 10 years!) movie will pick up on the Greek island with Sophie who is now expecting her first child. This time, the movie goes back in time to follow her mother as she met all the important men in her life, with Lilly James playing the young Meryl Streep. All our favourites are back too – Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and surprise cameo from Cher. Get ready to fall in love with the ABBA classics all over again.

Mary Poppins Returns
The famous nanny is back and this time she’s played by Emily Blunt. This isn’t a remake however, it’s a sequel where Mary Poppins goes to visit the grown-up versions of the children she nannied all those years ago. In the short trailer we also get a glimpse of Lin-Manuel Miranda riding a bike and looking an awful lot like Dick Van Dyke’s chimney sweep from the original 1964 musical.

A Star Is Born
In Bradley Cooper’s directorial debut, the actor plays a faded country music singer who discovers a talented unknown named Ally (Lady Gaga) who he falls in love with. With musical performances by Cooper and Gaga shot at Coachella and Glastonbury last year, this looks like it’s going to be a hit.

Mary Queen Of Scots
The story of Mary Stuart’s attempt to overthrow her cousin Elizabeth I, Queen of England, which found her condemned to years of imprisonment. This movie adaption of the old tale is already getting Oscar buzz with Margot Robbie playing Elizabeth and Saoirse Ronan taking on the role of Mary.

Bad Times at the El Royale
This retro thriller looks set to be one of the big hits this year as seven strangers with a secret to bury meet at the El Royale rubdown hotel. Over the course of one night, secrets become revealed one after the other. Jeff Bridges, Chris Hemsworth, Jon Hamm and Dakota Johnson star.

First Man
La La Land director Damian Chazelle and Ryan Gosling team up again to tell the story of NASA’s mission to land the first man on the moon. The movie centres around the sacrifices and the cost of one of the most dangerous missions in history.

Boy Erased
Based on the memoir of Jared Conley, this movie follows his life as the son of a Baptist preacher who is forced to participate in a church-supported gay conversion program. Joel Edgerton directs and stars in this coming-out tale along with Lucas Hedges, who plays Jared, and Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe, who play his conservative parents.

Bohemian Rhapsody
This foot stomping celebration of Queen is set to be the cracker of 2018. Rami Malek plays the weird and wonderful Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and shattered convention by becoming one of the biggest stars in the world. This film charts the creation of the band’s iconic sound, and it seriously will rock you (sorry).

The Girl in the Spiders Web
The fourth book in the Millennium franchise, this film stars Claire Foy as the tattooed Lisbeth Salander out to deliver vengeance again. If the previous films are anything to go by, this will be an edge-of-your-seat thriller.

The Children Act
This British flick stars the brilliant Emma Thompson as High Court Judge Fiona Maye. As her marriage flounders with her husband (Stanley Tucci), she has a life-changing decision to make at work – should she force a teenage boy to take a blood transfusion against his beliefs to save his life? A tearjerker.
