John Legend Has Made History By Achieving EGOT Status

John is the first black man to achieve the amazing honour.

It’s a massive achievement for a performer to achieve EGOT status – the term used to describe anyone who has earned an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award, and John Legend has only gone and done it while making history along the way.

The singer/actor won an Emmy at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday for co-producing the best variety special winner, Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.

At 39, John is the first black man to achieve the status.

Taking to Instagram to share a photo of himself with Jesus Christ Superstar producers Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, John expressed his delight over the win.

Alongside the photo he wrote:

Before tonight, only 12 people had won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony in competitive categories. Sirs Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice and I joined that group when we won an Emmy for our production of their legendary show Jesus Christ Superstar.

John’s wife, Chrissy Teigen, paid tribute to her husband’s achievement on Instagram, sharing a video of John placing the award alongside his other awards.

We’re not crying you are.
