These Travel Influencers Are Getting Heat For Dangling Off An Infinity Pool For A Photo
Why are you like this.
Now that everyone and their ma is happy to stand in New York traffic for an Instagram photo, travel bloggers think they have to up their game. So they’re standing in front of oncoming trains, or leaning out of moving carriages. You know, totally normal and reasonable behaviour.
Travel influencers Kelly and Kody (AKA @positravelty) have around 75,000 followers on Instagram – recently, they came under fire for this absolutely mad photo of Kelly dangling off the side of an infinity pool in Bali, supported by Kody, who is gripping her arms.
God, we have so many questions. Who took the photo? How long was she there and how many times did they do it until they got the perfect shot? Were the hotel not absolutely freaking out about a possible insurance settlement, and was she not wetting herself?
Some of their followers were impressed by the ambitious shot, their reasoning being that since life is a risk anyway, you might as well do mad stuff for a good photo.
The people who prefer not endangering themselves or their loved ones felt differently, however. A now-deleted comment reads: “I feel like these ‘influencers’ are influencing people to risk their lives for a dangerous photo.”
“It really makes me angry when people think safety is way too easy or boring,” wrote another.
Speaking to Insider, Kody explained why they were comfortable taking the picture:
What is probably most surprising to any audience is that this photo was actually Kelly’s idea. We are both in good shape, we know our bodies and in turn, we know our limits. We had faith in each other and trust to pull this off and so we made a choice as a team to shoot it.
Other images from the hotel show that the infinity pool in question is actually on top of another pool, so Kelly wasn’t about to fall off a cliff or anything… but still.
Guys, we know we probably don’t have to say this, but don’t dangle yourselves off infinity pools for likes. These two idiots might be super buff and inexplicably confident in their abilities, but you’re not. It ain’t worth it.
