ITV Just Announced A Winter Love Island, Meaning There Will Be Two Series Next Year

If you were looking forward to getting your life back when Love Island ends next week, we’ve got some bad news. From 2020, there will be TWO series every year.

Today, ITV announced a winter edition of the programme, beginning next year – the summer will continue on as normal in the Mallorca villa we know and love.

Confirming the news, a spokesperson for the broadcaster said:

We love making Love Island for ITV2. The show’s success is testament to the magnificent production team that decamp to Mallorca every year to deliver the award-winning show with its trademark warmth, wit, and wide-ranging appeal. And now 2020 is going to have even more love than before.

The winter Love Island will be filmed in a villa in South Africa (not at a ski resort in France, as we’d hoped when we first heard the news) and is scheduled for broadcast in early 2020.

According to The Sun, Caroline Flack will host both editions of the show, and the same production crew will be used to ensure everything runs like clockwork.

With more than five million people are tuning in to each episode of the current series, you can see why they’d want to repeat formula all year round if they could.

The Guardian reports that ITV had a 5% fall in total advertising revenue in the first half of 2019, which may explain their desire to drop a new series of Love Island around that time.

Will two series of Love Island a year take the shine off what has essentially become our summer sport? We’ll have to wait and see.
