Greta Thunberg Has Won An ‘Alternative Nobel Prize’
She has also been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize
The young girl who has the world talking, Greta Thunberg, is among four people who have been named winners of a Right Livelihood Award, an alternative to the renowned Nobel Peace Prize.
Created in the 1980s, the annual Right Livelihood Award is an international award to “honor and support those offering practical and exemplary answers to the most urges challenges facing us today.”
As you might be aware, Greta has been making headlines across the globe in recent months for her dedication to raising awareness for climate change. Speaking at a United Nations Summit earlier this week, Greta shook the world as she condemned world leaders for not taking an active role in attempting to eradicate climate change.
According to judges, Greta’s win was due to the manner in which she “personifies the notion that everyone has the power to create change.”
They carried on by saying:
“Her example has inspired and empowered people from all walks of life to demand political action.”
The 16 year old is in good company as previous winners include Bianca Jagger and David Suzuki. Further news also comes that she has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize also, and is the bookmakers favorite to win the prize next month.
Greta along with the three other winners of the Right Livelihood Award will receive 1 million kronor, which equates to €93000, meant to support their work.
