Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Cancelled After 24 Years
The fashion phenomenon is no longer.
Widely known for jewel-encrusted bras, extravagant angel wings and, well, the most super of supermodels, the annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is no more. For 24 years, models wore the angel wings with pride and we sometimes looked on in mere fascination, and sometimes we didn’t really care enough to even glance. It seems a lot of others around the world felt like this too, shock horror, as the show has been officially cancelled.
This comes after a snowball of different elements, their sales have been in decline for some time, their chief marketing officer received plenty of backlash after his controversial comments regarding transgender and plus-size models (not great, not great at all) and also that big thing of the constant lack of diversity.
Although, seemingly the reason for canceling the show is down to market evolvement. When asked if the next show was to go ahead, chief financial officer of VS, Stuart Burgdoerfer said: “No, we’ll be communicating to customers, but nothing that I would say is similar in magnitude to the fashion show.” He then continued, “We think it’s important to evolve the marketing of Victoria’s Secret”.
But wait, wasn’t there talks of this months ago? Yep, you’re too right. Shanina Shaik, Victoria Secret pro, let it slip during an interview with The Daily Telegraph that the show was getting the axe. Her exact words were: “Unfortunately, the Victoria’s Secret show won’t be happening this year.”
We can only imagine people will be drawn into two halves on this one, distraught by the end of an era or not too bothered at all.
