Katherine Ryan Has Spoken Out About Being ‘Harassed’ By A Rapper At The NME Awards
Slowthai has been criticised for making the comedian feel 'uncomfortable'.
Katherine Ryan has spoken out about being ‘harassed’ by rapper Slowthai at the NME Awards last night.
The 25-year-old, whose debut album Nothing Great About Britain was released to much fanfare last year, had to be restrained by security after a member of the audience called him a ‘misogynist’.
While accepting the award for Hero of the Year (eh, LOL), Slowthai leered at Katherine, wrapping his arms around the Canadian comedian and urging her to “smell my cologne”.
Katherine appeared to try and get away from the rapper, who pawed at her and tried to lean his head on her chest while saying: “Baby girl… if you want to do something, see me later… you ain’t never had anyone play with you like I’ll play with you.”
“You’re like the hottest guy I’ve ever seen. I’m so thirsty for your c**k. Thanks for the attention,” Katherine responded sarcastically.
Things really started kicking off when someone shouted ‘misogynist’ from the audience – Slowthai screamed at them for “ruining my speech” before hurling the microphone, his champagne glass, and finally himself into the crowd.
Twitter users and audience members alike have condemned Slowthai for making Katherine feel ‘uncomfortable’, but the comedian later tweeted that she was well able to handle him.
He didn’t make me uncomfortable.
This is why we need women in positions of power. I knew he had lost from the moment he opened his mouth like any heckler coming up against a COMIC – not a woman – a COMIC. I was operating 2/10. What a sweet boy. I defused it.

Katherine’s fellow comedians have praised her handling of the situation, with Dara O Briain saying he “wouldn’t have expected anything else” from her.
But as her fans have pointed out, she shouldn’t have had to deal with it at all. Love to be a woman trying to do a job!
