Here’s Why Micro Weddings Are Set To Be The New Wedding Trend Post COVID-19

Plus what is it, and should all future brides be planning one?

Wedding trends are something that comes and goes year in and year out. Moving on from traditional church weddings, we’ve seen ceremonies take on a more humanist feel and wedding dresses take on more lace panels than you can count (we blame you, Kate Middleton). But one wedding trend that is set to emerge in the next year goes deeper than a popular colour scheme or dinner menu.

In the last two months, we’ve seen Coronavirus have devastating effects on the entire world, with it currently not showing any signs of letting up. Due to government restrictions, many couples who were due to celebrate their wedding day in that time were forced to cancel or alter their event. While postponing your wedding may seem trivial in comparison to the turmoil and heartache others around the globe are facing, waving goodbye for now to something you’ve spent the guts of two years planning for is a still huge disappointment.

Some couples have altered their big day, swapping their dream venue for a registry office, while others have decided to put things on hold for when normality returns again. And then there’s the currently engaged couples who are unsure if their special day will also be affected, 6, 12, or even 18 months down the line.

For this reason, the idea of a micro wedding is something that many brides and grooms to be are turning to. Leading wedding website, Hitched has names Micro Weddings as one of the clear wedding trends emerging for 2021.

The idea of a micro wedding isn’t an entirely new concept, however. The term refers to a wedding with less than 20 people in attendance. So, think Britney’s wedding to K Fed, or Carrie’s wedding to Mr.Big.

While government restrictions set in place indefinitely may force many of us to have no other choice but to go down the micro route, it’s may be a welcomed concept. Different from eloping, couples can still experience a full wedding day when they go micro, just on a smaller scale. A micro wedding will always have a wedding and reception, but differing from a traditional wedding, elements like cake cutting, first dances, and speeches don’t have to be included.

The relaxed approach is appealing to many couples because it takes the pressure off the ‘perfect’ big day. It allows the two people who are getting married to truly focus on them and their love for one another, along with the love they have for the close friends and family who are in attendance. It’s a perfect way to customise a wedding to your exact tastes and allows you to enjoy things and be in the moment without worrying about your 100+ guests and their needs.

As we all know, the cost of a wedding can be extortionate, so by cutting down the number of guests in attendance at your wedding you also cut down the cost. While fewer guests at the ceremony mean the price is cut down, this doesn’t mean you have to compromise on quality. You can be more playful with your choice of venue, or dining space, and you can still enjoy all of the extras like an open bar and 3-course meal without worrying about the price racking up.

So if you’re looking for a fuss-free special day, while keeping in line with possible future regulations then the micro wedding could be for you.
