Ariana Grande recently spoke out about her ex, Mac Miller during an emotional interview. The 2009 rapper who she started dating in 2016, passed away on September 7, 2018, after an ongoing battle with substance abuse.
Describing Mac’s death at the time as “pretty all-consuming”, the 26-year-old singer told Vogue last year that she hardly remembered the months following his death, because she was (a) so drunk and (b) so sad. But now, in a rare interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe – one of very few since the rapper’s passing, Ariana spoke about Mac’s lasting impact on the world.
“I think that nothing mattered more to him than music, ever. And he was the kind of person who woke up and rolled into the studio, tumbled out of bed, into the studio next door,” she told Lowe.
“It’s just such a beautiful gift I think that he kind of touched the world with. And I think the thing he’d want most is for us to just appreciate it and not forget about it,” she added.

Also touching on the reason why she tries to keep away from media interviews and involvement with the press, Ariana explained how she has been scrutinised in the past and her words twisted which has left her feeling upset and defenceless.
“I stopped doing interviews for a really long time because I felt like whenever I would get into a position where somebody would try to say something for clickbait or twist my words or blah, blah, blah, I would defend myself. And then, people would be like, ‘Oh, she’s a diva’, I was like, ‘This doesn’t make any sense.'”
Explaining that she’s tried of feeling “silenced” as a woman, Ariana explained that she’s working on learning to speak up and stand up more for herself, regardless of what people think.
“It makes you want to quiet down a little bit. But I’m trying to also say, ‘f**k that.’ You know what I mean? I’m tired of seeing women silenced by it.”
Ariana recently released a new track with Justin Bieber – Stuck With U. Featuring fans and famous faces, the hit single is a charity track with all proceeds going towards First Responer’s Children’s Foundation.
Ariana and Justin’s manager, Scooter, said it’s the “first of many” charity singles for 2020.
