Could We Have A Normal People Sequel By 2025?
We'll wait as long as it takes...
The world has gone crazy for Normal People. At the beginning of lockdown you would think that Tiger King would be crowned the show of 2020, but it was rightly knocked off it’s perch by BBC’s Sally Rooney adaptation.
Everyone has been desperately hoping for a sequel to the show, including A-list celebs like Winona Ryder and Kourtney Kardashian. However, Irish author Sally Rooney left the novel open ended and hasn’t revealed if she would write a sequel for the best selling book.
Lenny Abrahamson has been very open that he would love to return to the characters of Marianne and Connell again and revealed that it has been a discussion; “We’ve talked about the possibility of how interesting it would be to check back in with them.”

However, none of these plans are set in stone just yet, but the idea is there; “Apart from just general musings over a drink, there have been no concrete discussions.”
“As Sally says, the book stops where it stops because it feels right.”
“But, I have a sneaking thing in the back of my head that if everybody was willing, and if the stars aligned, I’d love to revisit them in five years and find out what happened, where they are.”

It’s not only Lenny Abrahamson that’s looking to continue this story, but Daisy Edgar-Jones is also keen.
“The open ending is kind of perfect. That’s what life is like, you never know what’s around the corner. I quite like that I don’t know where they are and that we don’t have to say goodbye to them.”
“But at the same time, I guess I would be curious to see where they go, maybe in their next stage of life, maybe in their early 30s or even later.”

“I would like to see what that would bring but I guess it’s up to Sally and what she wants to do.”
Does this mean we’ll have to wait for Rooney to write another novel, or would show producers perhaps continue the series themselves? We’ll have to wait and see, but we’d love a second book to see what happens to Marianne and Connell.
