Hit Netflix Show The Crown Will Be Extended For A Sixth Season
Despite it being announced earlier in 2020 that the show would end after Season 5.
Netflix show, The Crown, has been confirmed for a sixth season, show bosses announce. In February of this year, it was revealed that the hit show would end after it’s fifth season but that has since been changed.
At the time, show creator, Peter Morgan said; “Now that we have begun work on the stories for season five it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop.”
Tbh, we expected there to be a sixth season. In the first two we had Claire Foy and Matt Smith playing the Queen and Prince Phillip. In the third season they were replaced by Olivia Coleman and Tobias Menzies. This decision was taken to avoid having actors spend hours in a make-up charge to ‘age’ them.
The casting for season five has already been done with Imelda Stanton playing Queen Elizabeth. It would follow the pattern of the show so far for them to play these parts for at least two seasons, meaning a sixth makes perfect sense.

Season four will cover from 1977-1990 so as you can see it is getting closer and closer to the present day, which of course can cause some problems.
This final season would reportedly bring the show up to around 2003, and Morgan did not want to go past this date as it is getting too close to the present time. There is so much modern day material about the royal family that would make for a juicy show, but with Meghan and Harry trying to remove themselves from the spotlight, covering this in a TV series would be unfair.

The program will still end around 2003, but the extra season will give writers more time to explore some of the stories it will cover. So what can we expect from the next three seasons?
The next season will introduce Princess Diana, and will of course delve into the affair between Prince Charles and Camilla too, so there is plenty of drama yet to come.
The fourth season is thought to be released in late 2020.
