When it comes to opinions on mascara, there are usually two types of people. One, who simply can not live without it and has a certain number of boxes that a mascara must tick. The other, who really isn’t bothered about mascara, either way, thinking that they basically all do the same job. You may be able to guess, but I fall into the picky category and I, for one, can not and will not be without mascara.

For me, mascara can almost rival lipstick. In the way that depending on what mood I’m in, or what look I’m going for, I’ll reach for a different mascara. Say one day I want light, fluffy, au natural. The next day I may want big, bold and dramatic. You know, depending on what side I get out of the bed.

So on that note, here are five mascaras that are worth every bit of praise they receive. Here. We. Go.

Two full sizes mascaras in one? Yep, we’ll take that. This dual-ended mascara is one of the latest products I’m reaching for again and again. One side delivers volume instantly, while the other is all about length and curl. The volume side features volumising fibres, and the length and curl formula includes gripping waxes and fibres to elongate your lashes and grab even the smallest of your lashes. The cheapest of the bunch here, but that in no way compromises on the quality. You can pick up Maybelline Lash Sensational for around the €12 mark, and it’s worth every penny. The formula is basically faultless, it doesn’t smudge or transfer all day, while the chunky wand makes it easy to achieve voluminously, long lashes in seconds. Plus, it’s not a nightmare to take off. Benefit BADgal BANG

If there’s anything Benefit is known for, it’s mascara. Well, brows too – but let’s keep to the topic, shall we? Their mascaras come out on top time and time again. The latest addition to their little mascara family may be old news at this stage, but it’s still up there with the best. BADgal BANG is a revamp of the original Bad Gal mascara, kind of like the OG but on steroids. If you want big, voluminous, dramatic lashes, this is the one for you.

Although, when it comes to removing this mascara, the usual wiping effect just won’t work. Instead, pop your eye makeup remover on a cotton pad and hold it on your lashes for a minute or so, then gently wiggle the remaining mascara off. Voila. Buy BADgal BANG right here.
