For once 2020 has decided to deliver a glimmer of hope, and this week’s ray of sunshine is David Attenborough joining Instagram.

The 94 year old has made a Guinness World Record in doing so, having become the fastest person to reach a million followers.

You’ll all remember when Jennifer Aniston joined the app last year, she also achieved a record breaking million followers in a short space of time, however David did so in just four hours.

The documentary maker has only been an Instagram user since Thursday of this week and already has a staggering 3.6 million followers.

His reasoning for joining the app, is not so much as a jolly one, as his first post is a video of him explaining why he set up an account on the social media app.

“The world is in trouble, continents are on fire, glaciers are melting, coral reefs are dying, fish are disappearing from the oceans,” he said in his IGTV video.

Continuing on, he said: “Over the next few weeks I’ll be recording messages to explain what the problems are and how we can deal with them.”

David, or rather David’s team (he is 94 after all), who are film crew members Jonnie and Colin, went on to say in the caption of the video that Instagram seems the best place to be for now to spread his message far and wide, all in the hopes of inspiring change to make the planet a better place.

Attenborough fans can also look forward to seeing some brand new Attenbae content on their screens soon also, as his new documentary, David Attenborough A Life On Our Planet will be landing on Netflix on the 4th of October.

But, if you were expecting flat lays and OOTD’s from David, you’ll be gravely disappointed, as David and co have said that along with advice on what we can do to help the planet and minimise out carbon footprint, he’ll also be sharing some BTS and sneak peek clips from his new documentary – so less morning coffee’s and more footage of ice caps melting.

We couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of this record, and we hope it helps him to further spread his important message.
